I TURNED ON THE STOVE!!! AT LONG LAST!!
Before you start laughing and telling me that all you have to do is turn the knob, let me tell you the most important part. Our house has a gas stove. To light it, not only do you have to turn the knob (which starts the gas), but you also have to actually light it. I'm not sure what the lighter's actually called but basically there's a button you push which creates a spark at the end. You use this spark to light the gas, and because it's small you have to put the lighter pretty close- to where the flame would be normally. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries. Apparently if you leave it for too long without lighting it then there could be enough gas to pose danger, which is why we have a fan above the stove.
Funny that last year I didn't even like going near the electric stoves at school... :P
